What are Porcelain Veneers?

Have you ever wished for a bright smile with teeth that could never be stained? How about more regular teeth with perfect shape and length? Or do your teeth always chip and misalign? If so, veneers are for you.

Veneers not only restore damaged teeth---they can also improve the aesthetics of your teeth. This is done by attaching a thin layer of restorative material composed of porcelain placed over a tooth surface, or, altering the shape of your teeth to cover any irregularities.

Types of Veneers

There are 2 types of veneers:
· Porcelain/Ceramic Veneers (uses thin porcelain layers as replacement material)
· Composite/Direct Veneers (uses composite resin as replacement material)

Porcelain VS Composite Veneers

While both improve the aesthetics of your teeth, porcelain veneers are better than composite veneers in many ways.

· are more natural-looking (looks like real teeth) and aesthetically pleasing

FAQ

Q1: How long do veneers last?
A1: With proper care, veneers or crowns should last for approximately 10 years.

Q2: Should I have a veneer or a crown?
A2: It depends. Veneers are considered a more conservative treatment than crowns. Less of the tooth needs to be removed in order to place a veneer. Your dentist will usually just remove a thin layer of tooth enamel from the front of the tooth and will not normally need to touch the core or the back of the tooth. Crowns require between 60% and 75% of the existing visible tooth to be trimmed away before the crown is placed. This typically means 2 to 4 times as much tooth reduction as veneers.

Q3: Will my teeth be pulled out?
A3: In most cases, no. However, in order to get the accurate sizing of the veneer, some of your teeth may be trimmed.

Q4: Are veneers easy to maintain?
A4: They are usually sturdy and hard. It could last 10 to 15 years under proper care.

Q5: Will they be stained?
A5: If you maintain a healthy teeth routine as recommended, you can expect your veneers to stay white.
